We all know that Stephen King is a Horror King. He knows how to deliver an exact creepy feel over his readers. The Outsider was his another best selling novel. And HBO platform turned this novel into a 10 episode TV series. HBO comes back not only with this series but also with a lot of surprises.
First of all, This series creator’s name is Richard Price, who already create popular series The Wire and The Night Of. Second of all, it’s based on best selling novel by King of Horror Stephen King. On the director’s list, there were two renowned named Andrew Burnstein and Jason Bateman.
Both of this director was associated with The Umbrella Academy, Jack Ryan, and Ozark series. And the interesting part was, the renowned author of the books Shutter Island or Mistik River, Dennis Lehane was also in the scripting department. So, HBO just surprised the audience with this series.
The Story begins with finding an 11 years old child body whose name Frankie Peterson. His body was ferociously torn apart. In the primary statement, they thought that this was done by an unknown ferocious animal. But soon they find Frankie’s classmate who sees that their league coach Terry Maitland with lots of blood-spattered in his mouth. And this is the place where the body was found. They also find CCTV footage. So everything goes against Terry Maitland.
Detective Ralf Anderson arrests Terry. But Terry was shot at court premises by Frankie’s big brother. After the incidents, they again check the CCTV footage. And they find that the Terry was truthful about his confessions. Because he wasn’t in the city the day that murder took place. Ralf understood that he just did a wrong thing by arresting Terry. Then how did this happened? Was Terry the murderer? Or Ralf just did wrong did? Who was behind all of this?
The story was interesting. But the best and most enjoyable part of this series is its making. From the cinematography to background scoring, everything was perfect. Thanks to the cinematographer. Because his light and shade camera treatment creates a creepy feel throughout the series.
The actors were brilliant in playing their roles. Ben Mendelson was fantabulous. Cinthia Erivo also did a good job. But the fact is the scripting was slow pace or slow burn. This could be boring for maximum audiences who don’t like slow pace. Another thing is it starts with a murder. So it presumes that the story is a murder mystery. But in the end, it turned into something else. So, the audience will be irritated about this.
